Happiness is to me, a state of contentment and gratefulness. It is not possible to be happy all the time, but there are things which you can do to find a more positive state of mind. I know how difficult it can be sometimes to feel happy, especially when you are possibly experiencing low confidence and self-doubt too. I did a post last week on the little things that bring joy, and gratitude is a really important step in becoming a happier person. If you are not grateful for what you already have it will be difficult for new things to enter your life.
There also needs to be a commitment made, you need to make a determined decision to change your perspective. Your happiness is something you have power over. If you constantly choose to let negative thoughts get the better of you then you are going to find it difficult to feel happy. On the other hand by challenging the negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones you are conscious effort to change how you feel.
* If you think you are suffering from a mental health issue, I would advise you to speak to a doctor. These are things which have helped me, but they may not necessarily help you.
Try to let go of anything making you feel negative. You need to think about how you really feel, if there are people in your life who do not make you happy try to distance yourself from them, even if this is difficult. On the contrary, if there are people in your life who make you feel happy spend more time with them.
Delete social media
This goes on from erasing negativity, if social media is making you feel bad about yourself then delete it. I have already done a post all about deleting my Instagram here.
A healthy lifestyle
Be proactive in looking after your body. Exercise, healthy eating, keeping hydrated and getting enough sleep are all really important.
The Law of Attraction
Repeating positive affirmations about yourself and your achievements helps your self-esteem. I have looked briefly into the Law of Attraction which is a philosophical belief that positive thoughts attract positive experiences – if you repeat to yourself every day that you are happy and think of yourself as a happy person then you will attract happiness.
Take time for yourself
It is really important to take some time for yourself every single day. Do something you enjoy or practice some self-care.
Remember to smile throughout the day, when you smile your brain gets a signal to say you feel happy, even if you might be faking it, and therefore you will feel better.
Wake up earlier
Waking up earlier can give you some time to evaluate how your feeling and plan for the day ahead. This helps you feel more prepared and if you imagine your day as going well then hopefully it will.
I meditate using Headspace every morning which helps me feel calmer and happier and sets up the rest of my day. This is actually one of my New Year’s resolutions.
Admire the world around you
Nature can be really beautiful, simply getting out everyday in the fresh air can boost your mood.
Listen to podcasts/audioboooks
I really like listening to podcasts and audiobooks. I find that they make me feel happier and often you learn new things too.
