How to achieve your goals

These are some ways that will hopefully help you achieve your goals:

Make sure they are attainable

I believe you can achieve anything you want to, but you have to be realistic about the work you are going to have to put in and the time it’s going to take, particularly if this goal is quite a way from where you are now.

Question yourself

Why do you want to achieve your goal? Sometimes you may want to achieve something due to other people pressuring you and this is not a good reason. Your goal should be something personal that you yourself want to achieve. Similarly if you just want to achieve something just to ‘look good’ then this is a negative goal. Your goal, big or little, should be something that you really want to commit to.

Set a suitable time frame

Think realistically about how long your goal is going to take you. If you haven’t got much free time then it will take you longer, you need to factor this in.

Be grateful for what you already have

Appreciate the things in your life that you have already achieved.

Think about progressive steps

There is no point in setting a goal and then not doing anything to actively achieve it, think about or write down some steps you are going to take.

Set a time each day/week

This means you have a designated time to do something proactive to working towards your goal. Keep this time free of distractions so you can focus on the steps you have planned.

Stay positive

If your goal is quite a long-term commitment you may experience some doubt and negativity, from yourself and other people. Try to keep a positive attitude and don’t be afraid to remove people from your life who bring you down, this means a lot to you and they should accept that.

Learn from failure

The only person who can get you to your goal is you, so you must have self-belief, but it is also alright to accept that you might experience failure. Learn from your failures and use them to help you succeed.

Imagine how you will feel once you have achieved your goal

This will be your motivation, keep a focus on your end goal. Each step you take is will bring you closer to it.
